• The Cause

    Stephen Bell

The Word that’s come forth strongly yesterday and today has had the theme from David’s words to his brother and the others there in battle with the Philistines in I Samuel 17:29: “Is there not a cause?”

Of course there was a cause—a greater cause than the army of Israel was seeing at the time. All they could see was the giant, Goliath, roaring at them every day. They were stalemated with fear and could not see beyond their present situation.

The cause was greater than their immediate salvation and victory. The cause had been determined years before when they were commissioned to go into the Promised Land and slay all the giants in the land. Because they had not been obedient, they were now facing this taunting hulk and, perhaps, death.

But David knew something they had forgotten. It was God’s cause, not theirs. God cause can never be defeated. God Himself sees that His cause is fulfilled. The cause is to establish the Kingdom of God.

So God needs a people who will submit to His cause that goes beyond their personal desires and needs. There is a cause for seeking to be free of all demonic influences; to be healed and whole; to be equipped and experienced in ministry; to be able to hear God’s voice and be obedient to it.

We are not just teaching and hacking at demons as some mundane day to day religious work. We see a greater picture, and that vision is the Kingdom of God filling the earth one day and being ready to be vital part of that.

It’s not just about me and you; it’s about Him and His purpose that is the greatest of all.

There were five foolish virgins who had not prepared. They were not ready and missed the greatest feast of all. They didn’t see the cause to do so.

    IS THERE NOT A CAUSE?

    Oh, yes there is!

ISA 31:1 ... many people look to the flesh (human devices and solutions) and put their trust in the physical rather than in the Lord. Their eyes focus on the moment's problems as being something that needs to be handled immediately, not understanding or even seeking to understand the long-range purposes and plans of God. The tendency is to "live for the moment" ... "But they do not look to the Holy One of Israel, nor seek the Lord". Isaiah saw something beyond himself, his encounter with the Lord leading him to make a powerful statement of faith for a "cause" he did not fully understand at that time. ISA 6:8..."Here am I. Send me!" Oh that each one of us look beyond this "present time" and seek to know the "cause" that God intends for each individual life in the larger spiritual work for His coming Kingdom.

The Lord is preparing His people for what lies ahead. But some will be as the 5 foolish virgins and not have their lamps filled with the oil of the Holy Spirit (the anointing). Others will be as the 5 wise virgins who went into the feast with the bridge groom. Timing is very important. My heart's desire is to be as the 5 wise virgins. As I cry out to the Lord, He never fails to answer me. The teaching on the lion and bear has brought much clarity to me. As I reread about the cause God has for each of us and as a ministry, it strengthens me to stand and to fight. To come out of self. To lean and trust those around me - I cannot do it alone. That whether I feel different or not, does not matter. It is what I believe. It is faith and trusting God! He has been dealing with me just about that and I am getting it. We cannot lie down on the job, but rise and take the ground so that we can go on. Is there not a cause? As Steve said, yes there is! And I want to be about my Father’s work and His will!
