DOES GOD CAUSE EARTHQUAKES?
Although God is a God of love, we must not forget He is also just. He tells us in his Word about the things we must not do, lest we suffer the consequences. Yet man goes on, ignoring the warnings in ignorance of God's word and wonders why things happen like they do. The next thing to do is to blame God, yet He has plainly spoken in His Word telling us about what will happen if we don't do it his way.
It seems that people are insulted when God's principles work. He makes it very plain that, when people want to get involved in witchcraft and make pacts with the devil , they will suffer serious results. This infuriates many people who do not understand the principles and sovereignty of the Creator God. Regardless of the anger and unbelief, God's principles work in nation’s and individual’s lives. The Word of God in the Bible is still alive, whether people want to believe it or not. They believe that God is cruel and shouldn't do such things as causing devastating hurricanes and earthquakes; nonetheless, we've been warned. But does He really cause them?
Out of rebellion and ignorance, people deny the hand of God and develop bitterness toward him in their lives, denying that He, and He alone, owns the earth. Most don't like to hear that, but it is absolutely true. To some of us, this is comforting. To others it generates anger as is apparent in the outrage generated against the statements of Pat Robinson when he said that the earthquake in Haiti was a judgment against that nation because of their voodoo and witchcraft. (See http://www.salon.com/life/feature/2010/01/13/haiti_satan_pact/index.html ). How sad.
Is all this any wonder when, according the Barna Group poll, that:- • Just half of all self-identified Christians firmly believe that the Bible is totally accurate in all of the principles (not the facts, just the principles) that it teaches.
- • Barely one-quarter of adults (27%) are confident that Satan exists. (This includes ministers).
- • Less than four out of every ten self-identified Christians firmly accept the teaching that a person can be influenced by spiritual forces, such as angels or demons.
See: http://www.barna.org/barna-update/article/12-faithspirituality/325-barna-studies-the-research-offers-a-year-in-review-perspective .
Although, God is a God of mercy and grace, He is also a just God who must rule with an unbendable rod of iron. His Word cannot be changed according to His own decision.
As I have discovered and taught, curses are real. If you don’t believe this, read Deuteronomy 32 and see if any of these things are happening in your life. If they are, this loving God has also provided a way out; a remedy, a cure, a deliverance. The remedy is found in Jesus Christ, His Son and what He accomplished by going to the cross.
“Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”), that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.” –Galatians 3:13-14 NKJV
God warns again and again about the curse that comes from involvement in, or even exposure to, witchcraft or the occult. I, personally, have had many souls come to me through the years whose lives have been harmed or devastated by such. A nation is no different.
Did God cause the earthquake in Haiti or has God warned a people through His Word and His prophets about the consequences of making deals with Satan? How many times must we warn someone of the effects of gravity before they step off a cliff?
The Bible is still alive and the Living Word that affects the universe.
It also affects your personal live whether you believe it or not. So don’t get bitter. Believe and be delivered. Be saved.

Yes, God is just and He does pour out judgement on nations. One of my questions is, have the prayers and confessions of the followers of Jesus "stayed" Gods judgement on the USA? As for Haiti, I do believe that God allowed judgement to come to them.Posted by Mike on Jan. 16, 2010
Thank you for this post, Brother Steve. I dont think that what happened with Hurricane Katrina was just a coincidence either, but also an "act of God" in the truest sense. What Haiti is to the Carribean is what New Orleans is to the US; a traditional home of Satanism and many vile expressions of the occult. I've been praying alot about the end times recently, and God has told me that the remnant needs to prepare itself for many more disasters like this. Preparation doesnt (only) mean getting a rifle and disaster supplies - it means becoming sensitive and obedient to God's voice and instructions. He will give us all the knowledge and encouragement we need to survive.Posted by Sean on Jan. 16, 2010
Steve, I totally believe that God brought judgment on Haiti (an exceeding wicked place) like He did on Sodom and New Orleans. When the stench of the sins and wickedness reaches His Nostrils, He will blow out Righteous Judgments upon the land, people, etc ... until He is satisfied with the results. This was a shaking, literally to those people who are survivors to turn to The One and Only True Living God Almighty and Repent. In Jesus Christ Name. Turn Haitians, Come to Jesus, Come to The Cross of The Lord. Come to God. He is waiting and plentiful in His Mercy to forgive, cleanse and Heal the land, and bring restoration. In Jesus Holy Name. Amen. ---- Sean MurrayPosted by Karla on Jan. 16, 2010

This is a time for true believers to to be a shinning light. We can be a witness and a tool of GOD by being there for the people. Through our light they will be drawn to the truth.Posted by Paul Nowlen on Jan. 17, 2010
PSALM 78:56-58 "Yet they tempted and rebelled against the Most High God and did not keep His testimonies, but turned back and acted treacherously like their fathers; they turned aside like a treacherous bow.For they PROVOKED Him with their high places and aroused His jealousy with their graven images". A little research into voodoo practices in Haiti reveals, shockingly, that many there practice the Haitian Trinity rather than recognizing the Holy Trinity of the Bible. Their "trinity" is Les Morts (the Dead). Les Mysteres (Evil and good spirits) and ET Les Marassa (Twin-half human/half divine).Israel provoked the true God Yahweh. Many in Haiti are involved in Voodoo and Witchcraft and continue to provoke the true God. For certain the people there have been warned for generations about practicing witchcraft but few have heeded the warnings. Where are those who believe in God's Word? Will they come forth, as a few have, and proclaim the "evils in the land" which causes so many innocents to suffer? "Again and again they tempted God, and pained the Holy One of Israel"(PSA 78:41). God is love, He is merciful, He wants to bless all. We pray that the truth of the witchcraft and voodoo that rules Haiti will be exposed and all that are involved in these practices will REPENT so that God's blessings can flow to all Haitians.God wants to bless but He will not be mocked by pagan practices and He does, at some point in time, pass judgment on evil practices. Sodom and Gomorrah learned this the hard way. Prayerfully Haitians will repent and be blessed with God's deliverance, mercy and grace.Posted by Anthony Dioka on Jan. 17, 2010
"Do you think that the eighteen upon whom the Tower of Siloam fell (the thousands who perished in the Haiti earthquake) were more wicked than others? Except ye repent, ye shall likewise perish" - Jesus Christ. When evil befalls others, we think it is because of their evil and wicked ways. When it befalls us, we ask, "Why me?" Perhaps there's a, 'Come not nigh me, I'm holier than thou!' in many Christians.Posted by Jimmy on Jan. 17, 2010
Greetings Men & Brethren; Sisters Too: After reading the title of this topic and reading the comments, I was stirred in my spirit and pondered what is the mind of God in this matter. I thought of Psalms 119; 160: The sum of Thy words is truth. So what does His word say? Proverbs1:24; Because I have called, and you refused; I have stretched out My hand, and no man regarded; 25; But you have set at nought all My counsel, and would have none of my reproof; 26; I will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh; 27; When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish come upon you. ( read the rest of this chapter as well ) We know about Job. That all that happened unto him was permiitted by God. God allowed satan to do all that was done. When Gods protection is taken away or when we don't have the blood applied to the doorposts of our hearts, then the repercussions will be devastating. ( Job chapter 1 ) Who is like unto Thee, O Lord, among the gods? who is like Thee, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders? Thou stretchedst out Thy right hand, the earth swallowed them.( Exodus15:11 & 12 ) What about Dathan and Abiram? The ones who withstood Moses and Aaron. Numbers 26:10; And the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them up together with Korah, (which Jesus spoke of) when that company died, what time the fire devoured two hundred and fifty men: and they became a SIGN. ( Matthew 24) When Katrina hit New Oreleans it was a day before the gay pride parade. The name Katrina means cleansing. I believe God sends judgement in many ways. I felt that when Katrina happened, I felt in my spirit that it's just the beginning of sorrows. If God doesn't judge America or any other country that condones what Sodom and Gomorrah were guilty of then He will have to raise them up and apolgize to them. But God is just and His judgement is righteous. He is not a man that He should repent nor the the son of man that He should lie!! We know that God desires mercy and not judgement. But if we shun His mercy, what is left? Romans11:22; Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God; on them which fell, severity: but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in His Goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off. Grace and Peace to you all.Let us not accuse any of anything wrongly. Lest we find ourselves in the company of the accuser of the brethren. I exhort you and admonish that we all standfast in the liberty wherewith Christ has made us free!!! Especially as we see the Day approaching.Posted by Karla on Jan. 17, 2010
This blog seems to have ingnited a fire under many -- and that's good. Controversy and confrontation is good when the spirit and attitude of the heart line up with God's. Thank God that He is all merciful. Judgment is not meant for annihilation: it is meant for restoration ! James 2:12 So whenever you speak, or whatever you do, remember that you will be judged by the law of love, the law that set you free. 13 For there will be no mercy for you if you have not been merciful to others. But if you have been merciful, then God's mercy toward you will win out over his judgment against you.Posted by Jimmy on Jan. 18, 2010
This morning I was watching CBN and they were having a pledgeathon for Operation Blessing. I believe the total they raised there at the last was $375,072.00 to help send relief to Haiti. I guess he was showing the character of God in a way, in which he spoke in the severity of God at first and then he showed the goodness of God as well. They said their going to send medical supplies, water, and other help in the way of doctors. It showed where Operation blessing had repaired and restored water lines to a hospital there in Haiti not too long ago.Let's hope and pray that God will be magnified in all this.Posted by Walley on Jan. 19, 2010
Brother Steve and All, I agree that God is a God of justice and that there are consequences for participating in witchcraft and the like. Of course God ALLOWED the earthquake to happen, since He is God nothing happens that He does not allow and none of us know His reason. I think though that the conversation of the Church, Body of Christ today should be centered on what is our response to what happened. There are thousands of people suffering horribly and those who are supposed to be the light of the world, known as followers of Christ by their love for the breather are more concerned about who sinned. John 9: 1 – 5. There are blood bought Christians in Haiti, supposedly your brothers and sisters, who have been praying and working to turn other Haitian to Christ and away from the occult, so are we pronouncing God’s judgment on them also? Jesus did not come to do away with the law, from which we get the understanding of God’s position about witchcraft, but He came to fulfill it. When asked which is the greatest of all the commandments He declared, Love God with all you have and your neighbor as yourself. Your neighbor is the person, who the thief jumped on, beat up, stole his possessions and left him to die on the side of the road. It is unfortunate that the preacher and regular church goers cross to the other side of the street and talk about how it was his fault, he should have known better, etc. What did Jesus say? If all of the law in contained in these two and you are not obeying the love your neighbor one, aren’t you just as guilty as the guy who practices witchcraft? If you are still with me, I invite you to watch the short video below of Christians in Haiti after the earthquake. A friend of mine who has been to Haiti several times and worked with this church sent me this today. http://ministrytodaymag.com/index.php/newsletter/videos/18797-ministry-clip-of-the-week-2010-1-19Posted by Karla Fox on Jan. 28, 2010
There are many very encouraging reports coming from the "hidden media" concerning Haiti and the very strong body of believers there; the ministry teams that have gone to pray with those hurting, devestated people. Even adoptions are in progress for the children who are left homeless -- so all in all, this devastating, horrible experience is being turned into good -- just like Rom 8:28 says. I pray the Haitian government will honor God and be a light to the nations.Posted by Jimmy on Jan. 29, 2010
meditating on the goings on lately, I realized more now than ever how petitions, prayers and supplications for all men everywhere (women too)be made, and we to ought to seek Gods' face and grace more now than ever. I've asked God to give me a fervent spirit to where when we pray it will be an effectual fervent prayer that availeth much. May God grant us this petition. As in Zechariah, may He pour out the spirit of grace and supplication upon us. It says in the word that the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds. When I was meditating on this and the subject of prayers and intercession, I saw prayer and intercession as a battering ram. It takes more than one individual to use one of those. So I hope that in unity, we can all in one mind and accord take up this mighty battering ram and take the kingdom that belongs to us. In Him we live, move and have our being. Grace & PeacePosted by Paul Nowlen on Feb. 3, 2010
Jeremiah speaks of a principle that evidently applies to the situation in Haiti. In JER 32:17-18 the Word says "Ah Lord God! You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and by Your outstretched arm! NOTHING is too difficult for You, who shows lovingkindness to thousands, but REPAYS the INIQUITY of fathers into the bosom of THEIR CHILDREN after them. The Lord of hosts is His name".It would prevail much if the fathers and leaders of that nation and its families would step forward and REPENT of the evil they have fostered, taught and practiced for generations, saying STOP IT NOW and say "We repent and will seek the Lord and His ways and then the curses will be lifted". God wants to bless everyone.Until the voodoo and witchcraft practices are stopped it does not seem logical that the curses will stop. A people cannot have it both ways when it comes to obedience to God and His laws and ways. I pray that repentance will be the byword on the lips and hearts of all the Haitian people. Oh that the leaders would listen and heed on behalf of the suffering masses. "Hear, O My people, and I will admonish you; O Israel, if you would listen to Me! Let there be no strange god(s) among you;Nor shall you worship any foreign god.(PSA 81:8-9) Are you leaders listening ??
